Was at TWRA renewing the boat registration Tuesday morning. They had NOTICES plastered all over the front doors. Any Federal land, boat ramp, etc is officially shut down. Any hunts on refuge property are officially cancelled immediately.

I am headed to Cuba Landing this morning, but the ramp is closed. I am told that crooked crrek marina is the closest place to Cuba.

Shut down...as in gates are locked and we can't access them?

Shut down as in: the dock manager stated that the feds would place a barricade in front of the ramp and station an officer to enforce it. The thing that pisses me off the most, is that I have fished Cuba numerous times in the last year and have never seen a TWRA officer there, much less a fed. He said that there had been some people launch yesterday, but there were no barriers. I'm going to try it before I drive all the way to Crooked Creek, but I don't look for much success.

That ramp is paid for already, and there is no manpower needed to leave it open. Sympathizers with your president seem to want to inflict as much pain as possible with this shutdown so as to punish conservative minded folks. Shut down the WIC office and leave the boat ramps open.

They have shut down WIC. And I do agree that there is no reason to close a concrete ramp.

So let me get this straight, because the ramps are "run" (by run I mean locking and unlocking the gates) by the COE and we have a Government shutdown (but not really shutdown), they're going to close off the ramp but pay an officer to sit there all day and not let us fish?

At this point, I don't know that this administration can be any more of a joke. "Non essential" functions of Government huh? Seems like this is a pissing contest and of course opportunities for hunters and fishermen are closed off. He knows we don't vote for him. Just like the sequester. Can't afford to let children tour the white house but 100 million dollar trip to Africa? No problem.

I think we should fire all of them with no benefits and start fresh with all new younger people that want to work together and keep this country strong and if that means start over I'm for it........................woody

Rockland had signs out by it's gate. There was an employee standing by it next to the main road. He said they may be locking it this afternoon or tonight for the closure.

I just hope it doesn't go on for the next couple weeks. Fall breaks with schools arecoming up and hate to see the kids get penalized by not getting to camp due to govt finger pointing.

Me and mine are some of those that are feeling the closure - had reservations on the water at Seven Points campground next weekend...plus if they close all the Corp ramps- the lakes will be EMPTY - that will be strange...

They said it will be open but it "will have a sign". I'm not sure quite what that means. If it's just a sign, I can guarantee that since I've already paid for that ramp through my tax dollars, I'll drive right past it, possibly spit on it, and go on fishing as planned.

Seems like the COE would just love to use this shutdown as an excuse to hinder our fishing plans as revenge for us winning the battle over dam restriction.

From Facebook - reply from the COE:

Jimmy DiTraglia So when you say those that don't have a gate will have a sign, you mean access areas along JPP will have a sign saying we can't fish? I plan to fish Smith Springs area Saturday morning out of my kayak. Am I going to have a path to the water or will it be barricaded?

Nashville District Jimmy DiTraglia - The gates/signs are only for the closure of federal boat ramps. Have a good time fishing and be safe...

So it looks like we're ok to use access points to the lake.
