Default Station Camp Creek

Does anyone know if you can get a boat all the way to the dodge dealership?

My guess is it depends on the boat. Airboat, sure. Full size and loaded bass boat, maybe not. Jim knows I'm sure hopefully he can jump in here and fill you in.

I assume you are talking about East Fork. You can get a bass boat up as far as the Gallatin Road crossing. You can actually get a little past the Gallatin Road bridge but the creek gets narrow enough at that point that you will spook any fish you get near.

Parents use to live on the lake in Baypoint (Gallatin Marina is just around the corner) I use to go to the bridge in 16 foot john boat with 25 hp and have seen bass boats fishing in there just out of the Gallatin roads view. That was about 10 years ago and don't know how the creek channel runs now, back then it shallowed to around 4 feet then got 6 to 8 where the creek narrowed. I would have to think as much flow as that creek gets when we have a good down pour that there is enough water to get there.

Good luck,
Ray

I live right near there and it is my home fishing area on Old Hickory. Therefore, I have fished it many times.

Yes, you can get up past the Gallatin road crossing, putting you right near the dealership. In fact, maybe another 100 yds up or so if the water is flowing well and you know exactly where to go.

But,.....

That is not the problem area for a bass boat. The area from the boat ramp under the powerlines near the mouth of Town Creek to where the creek narrows is very shallow. Lots of water a foot or so deep littered with logs from the past tornado. There is a way to get through but even after doing it many times in my basstracker I still hit stuff occasionally.

Then a couple hundred yards before Gallatin road is a big rock bar almost all the way across the creek. It is just far enough under that it is really hard to see most days, but you will hit it if you try to idle across it. Again, there is a little way by it. If the water is clear you can get by it and you will always know where it is. That said, I have hit it dozens of times. If the water is low it is really nasty.

I leave my motor lock off so it will kick up if I hit anything. I don't have trim and tilt so this works pretty good if I go very slow. Most times I am just trolling motor only in most of the creek.

There is decent fishing up in there, especially in the spring. Not good during the summer and hit or miss in the fall. I see fiberglass bass boats up there occasionally, so it is possible, but it is really better in a smaller boat or a kayak.

My recommendation is that there are many better fishing places on Station Camp creek at this time of year, but it is a neat little area being so close to town. I take my young son up there to catch sunfish and play around as it is sheltered and there are no speed boats of any kind.

Hope that helps,
Jim

Thanks, TK. Business hasn't slowed down much, but I'll tune in when I can.
