JPP kayak bass fishing 8/17
I had one of my better days this morning. Caught 7 total, all within 13 to 17.5 inches being the biggest one. I marked one right under my kayak in 4 feet of water, dropped the plastic worm down and caught it, set the hook and he leaped out of the water right next to me to throw my hook back lol. That fish was as big if not bigger than the 17.5 incher but oh well. I need to make better hooksets I guess.
The biggest one was caught on a walk the dog lure. I saw some action right up against the bank and fish being busted clear out of the water. Threw the topwater in there, gave it a few jerks, and he smashed it. Everything else was caught on zoom finesse worms - purple with blue flakes (whatever that color is called) and watermelon red. I caught a couple of them blindcasting but the others were caught by marking them on the depthfinder in 10-12 feet of water and dropping it down. I'm starting to get the hang of marking these quality sized bass in deeper water.
Too bad I didn't bring the cooler with me today, could have had a few good meals!

Nice going! Maybe you can give me a class on how to use your electronics for more than checking water temp and depth

Glad to see you got into them. I fished percy priest for 10 hours today and only caught one tiny one and a 2.5 pounder. I tried Stewards creek boat ramp, Fate Sanders Marina, Fate Sanders Recreation area, Smith Springs recreation area, an d all around long hunter state park.

Were you using the finnesse worms, or the trick worms?

I have a bag of the trick worms but haven't yet gotten around to buying hooks big enough for them. I use the finesse worms with a charlie brewer spider jighead (1/8 oz) and it's a great combo. This is my go to, and most productive, method of bass fishing any time of the year. I'd like to find a jighead similar to that but with a bit wider of a gap in the hook for hooksets on larger bass. It seems that a lot of hooksets that result in one jump and the bass is gone are on larger size bass and it's frustrating. I know I know... fishermen always say the biggest one got away right? haha
Nomad - check the replies in the 'fishing gear' forum about fishfinder advice. I did some math to give examples of knowing how far away from the boat what you're seeing on the screen is. Knowing this, I set mine to the 200kHz setting and that way I know that in 12 feet of water what Im seeing is at most roughly 4 feet away from me in any direction. I tested out this theory that morning and it works. Either I was catching the fish I'd see or feel the worm scraping up against the structure I was spotting.

Depends on how many casts you get before losing it.
I used to hate losing a crank bait. Now I worry about losing tungsten worm weights.
