I've got one and I love it! It shows you a tree when you go over a tree, brush when you go over brush. You can freeze the screen...move the cursor (hit any of the arrows on the main button, left, right,up, or down, it doesn't matter) to a brushpile, tree, what ever it is you want to find again, hit your "mark' BUTTON and it's placed on your map so you can locate it any time you want to. Very easy to use and detailed screen. BUY ONE!!

Merv demonstrated this unit to me Thursday ... It does most everything anyone would need ... The only downfall ,which I have read in reviews is the GPS Speed display ... constantly bounces speed ... And I witnessed this with Merv's ... But in Merv's case his Trolling motor maintains constant set speed ... usually from 1.5 to 1.8 MPH when trolling for Crappie or where ever he wants to set it ...

In my case I will use my Yama 4 stroke 50 HP with a trolling plate that Runs a min speed for my boat at .4 MPH on my 1000 pound Alumacraft boat base weight ... (Before the plate it's min speed was 1.5 for me to fast for trolling for EYE'S ) ... so I have to throttle up now with the plate but have all the capability of an electric trolling motor ... .. and then the only thing you hear is the water telltale discharge (the pee stream) hitting the water ...

I was going to get a 597 HD but I think I am going to do some more searching for reviews on an 800 or 900 series And also maybe Lowrance ... Merv also had what I think was a 800 series that the speed was dead fast ...

Merv ... What is the other unit ?? If you are not interested in dead nuts trolling speed ... The 597 is the way to go ...... <'TK><

Thanks for the input. The trolling speed is important to me when striped or hybrid fishing so that is very helpful. I was looking at the new lowrance elite 7 hdi series with the larger screen too. Too many choices so I pulled the trigger and ordered the 597 last night which is a couple hundred bucks less than the lowrance. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that your experience with jumpy trolling speeds was isolated to that unit. Thanks again!

TK, my dash unit is the older model 997 c SI. Today,s comparable model would be the 1198c si hd combo, about $2800.00.

TK, you may be interested in this if you need to slow down further or run the motor a little faster but stay slow.

Once my rod holders are set, I will use buckets as opposed to bag or a plate on my 90hp for slowing down. Hang one off each front dock tie then use the big motor.

Travis, If I slow down anymore I would be just about be stopped , .4 MPH is pretty darn slow ... I do not have any problem maintaining any trolling speed I want with my 50 HP 4 stroke with my auto trolling plate ... And my paddle wheel Raytheon fishfinder does a pretty accurate job checking my speed .. ( Also have a Hand held Garmin that I have checked my sppeed with .... But if I am going to make a major High $$ purchase ... I don't want my Gps speed constantly Ramping back and forth lets say from 1.2 to 1.8 ... That's not acceptable, when others don't... Thanks for the info <'TK><

commdd ... don't remeber the brand but I think that it is the only one Cabela's sells that is automatic ... All Springs no lines, releases, or clips that you will forget to do .. like raise the plate when you take off and rip it off your boat ..

At my age when I want to fish I want it simple as possible ... getting the tackle out (5 or 6 rods) is a big enough chore but to fool with manual trolling plate, water cones and drag bags would just be a lot of work ... Especially when you get hung up and you need to circle back with all your gear out and drag bags etc ... ... If you can't find it let me know I look it up for you ... But I found no compromise on top end ... Now I don't have a 75 MPH bassboat either ... Well Anymore .... <'TK><

The only difference between the 597 and 587 is screen size. The 597 is 5 inches and the 587 is 4 or 4.5. I thought about buying the smaller screen to save some money but then I found the 597 for 423 bucks at digital oasis.com. If you google 597 ci hd di it will show up on the first page.

Hope this helps! Send me a pm if you want the link to the website that has it for 423...
