Default JPP Crappie 8/10/13

Got on the water with Agelessone at 5AM to look for hybrids and rockfish. No luck there so about 9AM we decided to just troll for crappie. We trolled 6 Bandit 200 and 300 crankbaits for a few hours over brush piles staying in about 17 feet of water. I took home a dozen crappie since Merv was kind enough to just let me have all the ones that made it into the livewell! Thanks dude! I'd post a pic of them but hey.. we all know what crappie look like. They all look the same and are generally the same size. I did catch a TARP qualifier at 14 and 1/4 inches though. Me and the wife have a few tasty meals coming!

We also caught several short crappie, several short bass, and the occasional small yellow bass. A good time indeed!

I was wondering about your trip. Glad you all got into some fish. Thought you might be fishing below JPP with them letting water out. It looks like the end of the week is going to be some great weather for fishing...if the cold front doesn't shut them down.

Regards

Awesome! Had plans to fish below JPP this morning, woke up at 4:30...to tired. Might go this afternoon as they are closing the doors tomorrow.

Yea I noticed that the gates were open and perfect flow. I didn't have a chance to make it out there yet and probably won't before they close them. Good luck, I'm sure you'll catch yet another rockfish!

How do you find out that they're closing the doors tomorrow?

Fished this afternoon, no luck, I am sure they bit at sunrise, just too tired.

Jimmy, here is a site that shows the 5 day forcast of average water output, they change it often, but gives you an idea. Percy's normal average output is summer is 130 cfs, they post the average output in thousands, therefore 0.1 equals 100 cfs. Right now they are releasing 1200, so it is listed as 1.2. Tomorrow it lists .5, so I guessing around noon they will shut the doors, then closed all day Tuesday, then looks like they will open 1 door for a period of time on Wednesday. If you have any questions let me know. I am pretty sure I am about 25% of the daily visitors to this page, I check it about 10 times a day even though it is only updated once a day. But with time, experience, and study of flows, you can pretty much determine if the rockfish or other game fish will be there or not just by your phone. I live off this site and the tva site when it comes to fishing below dams.
