It was a great day on the Chickamauga Dam Tailwaters with Joe Jellison.
If you want the more "entertaining" report... watch this video:

Joe wanted to target smallmouth... obviously not a prime time of year to do that but we figured, "Why not?" Of course there was zero generation and zero current for starters so we opted to begin chasing cats. Joe stuck a 25 lb. hard-fighting pig blue - first fish. Not long after Joe boated his fish we got to watch my partner, Sam Simons, and his attractive partner for the day go toe-to-toe with an even bigger, meaner blue. (also on video above).
Generators kicked in as scheduled at 9 am and on our 2nd drift, Joe was tied up to our one and only smallmouth of the day. We kept drifting shiners all day... we probably would have caught some more smallmouth but there were too darn many other fish that wanted out shiners more. Poor, poor us.
Perhaps the highlight of the day was watching Joe tied up with a freight train, 31-pound buffalo... while I had him equipped with a buggywhip smallmouth rod with 6 lb. test leader. What a fight... Joe was THE MAN! Not many folks could have whipped that beast on light tackle and light line. (BTW, some of that battle comprises much of the video above)
We caught eight different species of fish yesterday... and a significant number of them. That means life is good and gettin' better every day!
