Painting my boat

Im wanting to repaint my aluminum boat.....its got the standard green flat paint on thats got scratches and some other paint where somebody painted part of the boat but never finished.
Im not looking to dump a ton of money on but want to atleast do it as right as money allows. I seen that home depot has gallons of Rustoleum oil based paint. I know the boat wont rust so thats not why im considering the Rustoleum, but ive read that its a good paint overall. I have a harbor freight sprayer that i intend to use for a nice clean look.
So long story short, does anybody for see any issues with me using Rustoleum on the existing paint?

Over the years I have painted many old flatbottoms with rattlecan paints including Rustoleum. If the boat has a decent paint job on it now (not pealing and flaking) just clean it up and scuff it with some sandpaper and spray away. It will hold up better than the factory paint in most cases.

Great! thanks for the response! the previous owner had glued down that super cheap outdoor grass on.the benches and the front shelf so ive got all that off. (horrible task!) So i will scuff it up some, give it a good power washing and start spraying!

I believe the scuffing it up is the most important part. If you get it on uneven you can always add more coats. If you don't have good adhesion the entire process is pointless. Take your time with the prep for sure and you'll be much happier with the results in the long run. No experience with rustoleum on aluminum, but the above holds true on bedliners in pickups which also go over existing paint.
