This is aweful news. Thoughts go out to his family and friends. Always be aware of your surroundings on the water, and if you are doing anything to obstruct water please contact the proper authorities and make sure the public, and yourself are protected from dangers.

Just saying but why would they even have the power lines so close to the water to begin with?

In my line of work if something happens that's a result of my negligence then I'm held personally responsible. There doesn't even have to be an accident. I can personally be fined by my company for up to $50,000, on top of that I get time off up to 90 days without pay, if it's bad enough you get fined by the company, FRA, and then fired. Our motto is accountability. If something like this happened to me I would be fined, given 90 days on the street, and then the company would pay the families, then after my 90 days and I were to come back to work they would then fire me.
