Thumbs up old hickory lake fishing report 7/30/2013

I got out today before the rain and started off with bluegills in the morning. I hook a nice white bass but lost it at the boat. I worked the shore lines in and out of this cove. I only caught gills this time, so I went out to the deeper water and found someone catching slabs in 10' to 15' of water. So I went back in to the cove and drifted back out in the deeper water and caught two bass. I'm using a small fluke like grub with a 1/32oz jig with a float for the shore lines and without for the deeper water. Like they say match the hatch and you will have fun....................woody

The shad are very small, a micro TM would work better than a standard TM. I was out last night (7/30) in the Drakes area of Hendersonville. Caught 5 bass from 7-9:15 pm and got drenched, lol. All bass came on a black/blue flake Senko tx rigged and cast together to the bank. I used a deadstick then slooooow pull then deadstick retrieve. The hits got progressively more aggressive as the light died. Biggest was 16", average was around 14". I didn't take a lot of pics due to the constant rain.

Black and black with blue flake are my 2 favorite colors! Were you fishing 4 or 5 inch? I started out with 5 inch but over the years, have found out I get many more bites on the 4 inch version.

Good report, woody. Anytime you can catch fish in the heat of summer is a good day, IMO.
