Default Cutbait Assistance

May be a silly question but I am looking to get shad or skipjack for catfish cut bait.

I have tried sabiki rigs below the dam at cheatham and OH this week with not a nibble.

A friend is looking to go catfishing this weekend and his boat, I am to get the bait. Can someone offer and assistance on where to locate how to catch baitfish?

I relocated to TN about 2 years ago and live a stones throw from Percy dam. I love to fish and reluctantly admit I am not very good at it and need some assistance on locating bait fish and any tips on catfishing on Percy if people are willing to share. He is wanting to go out Sat night.

Thank you.

I have always caught mine with a cast net(I think it is illegal to harvest gamefish i.e. bream with a net). Never tried a sabiki rig. I had little luck with shad or skip(cant remember now) below PP dam but it was the middle of the day and I wasnt out there long. For me winter and spring are the best times to find them close to dams where the water is warmest. Also no matter what time of year it is try just at sunrise and right around sunset. I assume in summer time they school up and head to open water. Below Cheatham I would always walk down to the end of the big boat ramp and throw left. If all else fails just catch a bunch of gills, bring some liver and hose, worms and shrimp. I've heard of some guys using chicken breast with a marinade of fish oils, vanila and other oily stuff on it.
Hope this helps or at least gives ya some other ideas!
Also be sure to take your net or sabiki rig with you when catfishing. You never know when youll run into a good school out on the water and the fresher the better!

Thanks for the advise.
may just have to go the other route. I just heard shad and skipjack are the better baits to use. was hoping to get into some.

Friend of mine was telling me to pick up some "secret-7" at basspro.
Anyone heard of this stuff and had any luck with it?

I appreciate the offer.

I don't get home until 5:20-5:30 is that too late or what time were you thinking?

I have a pole and sabiki rig, and a bucket lol. what gear would be needed, I can see if I have it or can get it on my very late lunch from bass pro.

I can try to call a bit later but its easy to check the forum once in awhile when I get half a second from work.

Thanks,

Marc
