Default JPP Smallie 7/5/2013

Took the kayak out today to Smith Springs which is quickly becoming my favorite place for kayak fishing. Not much pressure and a LOT of good bank to fish. I got absolutely poured on but no lightning, no problem. I actually enjoyed the rain as opposed to being hot and dripping sweat all day. Caught several largemouth on a plastic worm. One around 14", the others all small. Highlight of the day is the 18" Smallie, my largest so far and also caught on a plastic worm. I caught it on 6lb test and I must say, I have a whole new respect for these fish now after catching my first larger sized one. What a fighter! I didn't see what it was for a good 3-4 minutes and was sure I had a big catfish because it never jumped, just pulled drag.

Every time I get to fish it's a blessing but when God sends a fish like this my way it's a little better

Nice fish! Once you catch one, its all you want to catch! The Pooles knob area across from the campground is loaded with them. I caught my personal best there. It blasted my Zara spook, missed. I kept the bait moving and it hit it again. So much fun, had my heart racing.

Yea they've got some fight in them. I've caught plenty of largemouth bass this size and there's no comparison in the fight. Like I said, I didn't see it for a good 3-4 minutes on that light line and since it didn't jump I thought it was a big flathead. Once I get a depthfinder on the yak and can locate fish, I hope to find more of these brown fish!
