Default Fishing Guide question

Hey guys, my father and brother are coming down for a "guys weekend" over memorial day and I've hired a fishing guide for a day. Now I've never gone through a guide before, so I was wondering...do you tip the guide at the end of the trip on top of the guide fee? I've used charters on Lake Michigan fishing for Salmon and tipped the boat crew, but don't know if thats proper "protcol" for a single guide down here. Any other proper ettique I should be aware of. Obviously, the guy is taking time out of his weekend to take us out, so I don't want to upset or offend him for breaking any unwritten rules.

Thanks!
Jamie

A lot of guides pretty much live off the tips after expenses are taken out.

Thanks guys. What would you consider a generous tip? Don't want to come across cheap.

Sort of depends on what you paid for the trip. What do you tip at restaraunts? 15-20%? probably acceptable $50-$100 depending on the outcome.

Remember, don't just tip well if you catch fish. But if he is trying hard and is courteous and you have a good time and the fish do not cooperate. I think he still deserves a good tip. Just my thoughts.

I'm a guide. I do not EXPECT a tip. But I very much appreciate it if I get one.

I have one regular client who works at Jack Daniels Distillery. I really appreciate his tips.
