Default Creek Smallie pattern?

Got out on Thursday before the big storm and found a hot bite in the middleTN small streams (can't beat a low pressure system!). Literally could not keep the Red Eye off of my line, it was every other cast with a hookup. However, I could not find a smallmouth to save my life.

Conditions were windy, 80 degrees, overcast, low pressure. Fish were in deep holes with light current near brush and root balls. Water was warm enough for the snakes to be out and about already. Heard a few turkeys gobbling and a few woodies headin' for shelter before the storm

Fish were hitting crawfish plastics, Senkos, and tubes in green/natural bounced along the bottom.

I caught one nice smallmouth right at sunset as I was reeling in my bait for another cast. Very aggressive. However, I couldn't put together a pattern. Where are the smallmouth right now? Deep holes or current or both? Normally I catch a good mix of smallies/red eye, but could NOT find the brown fish today. What gives?

They may be on bed. At the peak of the spawn the bite shuts down for a week or two.

Same here, went Thursday and caught tons of rock bass, but not a smallmouth. We did see some big buffalo and gar thought.

I agree with BD. In the creeks I fish the smallies should be coming off bed this week or next. Now I have seen fish bedding in the creeks all summer just the majority do there thing Late Feb thru April depending on conditions.
Just keep fishing it is all about days on the water more than fish caught on each day when it is all done!!!!!!!!

As of yesterday, it seems like the smallmouth are coming off the spawn. We picked up several big, aggressive post-spawn females yesterday. It's time to go!
