Default Nickajack 4-12-2013

Had another good day at Nickajack. Although only 20 fish today. The front.....rain....colder weather or just not being turned on made for a good but tough day of fishing. Most fish were black crappie. We had a couple at the 11 inch mark but the rest were 13-15 inches. As usual at Nickajack they fell prey to a Bison colored Trout Magnet. Hardly caught any females today. Also caught one decent large mouth.....was lot of fun on the UL. We tried a couple of locations and left at 4:30PM. I feel if we stayed we could have caught more but both of us were beat from getting up at 2:30AM. Ran into a forum member down there today...jaycee. Was good to see him.

Was good to see you and meet nephew. Only had two until about noon. Waited on the solunar times to major fishing time and they and warming temps made the difference. Caught a limit of the blackest, meanest fightenest crappie ever. Left at 1:30p. A very enjoyable day for me and Roxanne, my dog. A few 10 1/2, others 11+ and 3 a little over 14". They were so close to the bank I had to fish horizontal like 4 feet out. If bushes were over hanging I could not get close enough without getting hung in them. All black male colored ready to do there thing. I actually saw a few coming out of the rocks. Bison was the only color. Not even my favorite electric chicken.

For added info, used a small bobber as the water was too shallow and needed the float to keep off the bottom. Was fun between the red eye, blue gill, yellow bass and then the real thing.

These were not the JP Priest crappie that I am used to catching.

Thanks Alphah.

When we left at 4:30 they were only maybe a foot off the bank! You could see the flash when they struck they were so shallow. The water just kept getting muddier as the day went on. Hope it clears by next week.

Where do you launch at Nickajack? I have driven over it while travelling to Chattanooga, but don't know anything about where to launch or fish.

The water is clear on the other side of the channel or past the bridge.

I don't own a boat. I have a kayak and launch at several spots. Plus many spots I fish from the bank....my last two trips down I caught those crappie from the bank.
