I know 2 lb. flourocarbon leader is used but is it best to fill the whole reel with it? Also what knot is best to use to keep back of magnet from dropping down? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't fill it will flourocarbon. About 18in leader is plenty. Use light 4lb mono as a filler. You do want it to be light so it will cast. I always tie my TM will a palomar knot.

2lb flouro is way too expensive to fill your entire spool with it. On my UL setup I have 4lb mono with a few feet of 2lb flouro that I use for TMs or CMs. When using the UL setup for something else I do away with the 2lb and just use 4lb (for soft plastics, rooster tails, grubs, etc. )

And I use a clinch knot for everything except when using braid, then I use palomar knots.

The 2lb SOS line is hard to beat. It's available at the same place you can buy trout magnets online as its their line. You can buy it at Big Rock up at the Caney but other than that it's pretty much order online.

Since I go through a lot of line when I am fishing a bunch. I use 2 lb SOS and then I put around 24" of fluro as leader.

You will have to look far and wide to beat SOS mono line. I prefer the 2# test....it is incredibly strong.....limp....casts great and is very manageable. I will be using a different knot this year to tie to the TM. It will leave a loop in the line and cause the TM to be really free....moving around a lot. Do a search on jig loop knot. There are many ways to tie it but some are more simple than others.

I was introduced to this knot while working the Sports show in Memphis.This gentleman who did some talks for us on TM's and CM's had it all rigged up and I had never seen it. We went to the trout pond they had set up to see the difference using his jig loop knot and what I have always used. It was a lot of difference in how more natural it moved through water. This is the knot I used on the Caney on Monday and did so well.
For those who want to know,talking with TWRA folks and they have shocked the Elk to count fish and said it was loaded with the trout.

I have not tried the SOS so no comment there. However Damyl Tectan (Fishusa.com) Premium Plus is a great small diameter line. I think it is being phased out for the Tectan Superior, which I have yet to test.

I tried Tectan.....bought it from Cabelas. Unfortunately it was a bad bunch of line and when they finished the clearance sale they never carried it again. Maybe 10...15 feet would be good and then it would break with just a slight pull. I think that was the reason for the clearance. There were many reviews speaking of the same problem. I knew fishusa carried it but now they are getting rid of it. The company had switched hands a while back and supposedly that is when they started having trouble. They have been talking about the Tectan Superior for several years now. I know folks who used it years ago with much success. I have used a lot of the so called super mono lines...Tectan.....Stroft. I always come back to SOS.
