Default Baxter COE Meeting 1-17-13

I drove out for the Baxter meeting this evening. There were about 100 people in attendance. The meeting format was similar to what was reported in Kentucky.

Lt. Col. DeLapp showed a PowerPoint presentation for the first 30 min outlining the Corps' implementation plan and reasoning. They plan to begin with the main navigation dams starting as early as March and finish with the tributaries as early as May.

The public response was led off with a prepared statement from Bobby Wilson from TWRA. Also in attendance were representatives of Jim Cooper, Bob Corker, Diane Black, and Scott DesJarlais (there may have been others). State Rep Terri Lynn Weaver also spoke. The overwhelming response was of disapproval.

During the Q and A, DeLapp all but said himself that the only way to stop this is to address it at the Congressional level.

Thanks for the update.

That sounds pretty much like how the KY meeting went. They presented, few people talked, maybe some questions answered but the ball is already too far down the road to be stopped by someone not in or connected to DC.

What is the term commander Delapp serves? IF this is something that gets done is it something we can get overturned with the next person or would it be on the books and they'd be afraid to mess with it because of not being their regulation?

Definitely, keep contacting your reps!
