Default Center Hill 10-22-2012

My son and I put the kayaks in this morning to fish Center Hill. Only one fish was caught....a nice Smallie caught on a deep purple Wooly Bug. When I say only one fish caught...that was it...no Gills no Spots.....no Pumpkin Seeds.....nothing. The water was extremely clear......a great day to be on the water with my son.

Nice smallie, but what happened? I didn't think it was possible, one fish!! Maybe you are a real person and not a TWRA fish sampling robot.

I guess his reputation preceeded him at Center Hill. Those fish must have been hiding.

Next report from Alpha will include pics that make me sick, an in-depth report that I would somehow mess up, and yet I will still look forward to his next one.

Dont have an answer. We fished bluffs...ledges.....pea gravel....points and some grass. We covered a lot of water today. Most of the time the water was like glass. Odd to go there and not even get into the Pumpkin Seeds. But I will catch some fish this week...LOL. I plan on fishing Pickwick Thursday....and maybe Nickajack on Wednesday. Might go to Pickwick tomorrow also after an early dentist appointment. Also this will be a rare weekend for me....I will be fishing at least one day of the weekend.

Chris
Felt bad for my son today. He has only fished a couple of days out of the last 4 weeks and he has not been catching anything. But he and my other son are heading to South Holston...Watauga...Little Wilbur over in East TN for a week of camping and fishing. The last time they made that trip they had some Rainbows that were some of the most gorgeous fish I have ever seen. They even looked mean...LOL. If the dentist doesn't mess me up too bad I will be giving another report tomorrow night.

Regards

Alphahawk,

I always look forward to your reports, so please keep them coming. I was wondering if that was the PSP rod that you were using? Did you get it fixed? Was it the eyes that were the problem? Hate to ask so many questions but you've got me really interested in that rod and was wondering if it was worth the money.

Thanks for the comments. No I would not purchase another ESP Rod. I gave it a very good review after extensive use but after about 6 months the lacquer on the rod started to fade .....turn milky color....and peel off. Plus as I had written in the review that I did not like the guides but over time I would report back how they held up. Well the guides are horrible. I checked into getting the rod re-wrapped. The two guys I checked with quoted me a price in the 100 dollar range......I paid 76 dollars for it......but I decided against doing it as I can get a nice rod for 100 bucks. There are better rods for the money and better rods for less money than the ESP.

You are right about that. It humbled me. I do fish it a lot March through May.....but that is not the same as fishing in late Fall.

He is not Chuck Norris with a fishing pole. Sorry about the slow day Alpha, but I'm sure you will more than make up for it by the end of the week.

Some days it doesn't matter who you are or what you throw. The fish are not in a feeding, chasing, or striking mood......and you can't make'em bite.

Thats why we call it "fishing" and not "catching". Isnt that the fun of it, trying to figure em out. Some days your the dog and some days you are the hydrant.

That is funny right there!!! BT, I hate to be the hydrant!! LOL!!although i have to admit that i have been there and done that many a time, i was also started to think Alpha fished with some kind of special "something" since he spanks the heck of fish almost always, I'm sure we will see some pretty darn good reports in the next couple of days!!

I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you!

When we drove to Fall Creek Falls last week, we took 70 down which took us right over the bridge by the Center Hill marina. I had to stop to go take a look and couldn't believe how clear the water was. Right off the walkway which leads to the restaurant, we saw lots of small bluegill and to my surprise, 2 nice-sized bass cruising around in about 2 feet of water. Beautiful area down there...
