Default Oh 10/21

Not alot of numbers, but managing to put some fish in the boat. This Rockfish is a carbon copy of the one caught last week. Only rockfish caught this trip, along with a keeper sauger, a small LM bass, and a drum.

The sauger is ready for the pan, which works great since my wife is scrapbooking all night and I'm fending for myself. Hopefully we can get into better numbers of fish that can actually eat our bait, lol.

Yes sir, those sauger are some good eats. I think the bite will continue to improve, we shall see.

We were out looking for them on Sunday too. No luck, and no skippies up at the steam plant either. Very little activity in some spots that have traditionally produced this time of year.

I think the intense heat and drought from earlier this summer shifted the timeline off a bit, and hopefully things will pick up as fall progresses. Sounds good anyway.

Looks like you guys had fun.

What's the preferred way to cook sauger? Never tried it and always heard how good they are.

Lightly coated in Cajun fish fry and fried is how I usually have it. I'm sure there are other recipes that are great, but I'm lazy and frying fish in a skillet is quick and easy.

Yes, and I was glad I had it. It didn't feel warm till 10 or so. Also the last two times out all of the fish have come in the morning by 10-10:30 or so. I am pretty sure they would probably start up again nearer to dusk and dark, but for us there has been a clear cut-off after the early morning bite.

I will second the frying process TXnative mentioned earlier, and I always add a squeeze of lemon and a little salt and pepper right when they hit the paper towels.

As long as you cut the red muscle out... same as cat fish ... ... Salt and pepper is all you need and a good batter of your choice... You don't need to mask a bad taste... remove the culprit THE MUSCLE... and then enjoy ... <'TK><

Hey TK,
Are talking about sauger or striper here? I always take the red meat out of striper, but have never found any on sauger or walleye.

I have never had sauger. They look like a walleye. Do they taste as good too?
