If you have a smooth drag, line strength won't hinder you as much as you think. The longer rod will help, too, since it'll absorb shock. I use 2 lb tippet exclusively on midge patterns when I'm flyfishing the caney and have landed numerous trout, biggest around 3-4 lbs, and very seldom do I break off. My biggest fish on 2 lb was a 6 lb striper below old hick. I was targeting skippies and whites with a UL rod and a 2" swimming minnow on a 1/16 oz jighead when the striper hit. 10 minutes later, I released the fish and grabbed a rod set up for stripers, but couldn't get another hit, even from the skippies. I went back to the UL, and was back into the fish.
Since you have the wispy rod and plan to use it for crappie on priest, I predict a school of hybrids finds you. Murphy's law is always around, especially for fishermen, lol.
