I am thinking about going to fishing tomorrow but unsure of a good spot this time of year. I had thought about taking my kayak and fishing the pont by the water fall for crappie or whatever or fish the breakline of the current during generation.. then a little maybe going to betty island and either launching and paddleing up stream a little and fishing or leaving it in the truck and wading there. Any input is greatly appreciated. maybe i would be better wade fishing first and then doing the pond later in day.. idk ..

I've got trout magnet and crappie magnet of different colors and panther martins and some small crank baits. Betty island wont see the water from the 9-10 1 hr generation untill afternoon i assume. so that should affect me in my decision. has anybody fished the lower half .. by stonewall bridge lately. it used to have a public acces but i havent looked it in a long time and no idea how the oxygen levels are down there.

I do not have the resources for a float trip. but i would image there are a few places i can put in and paddle upstream to a shoal or hole to fish.
My other option would be to float the obey .. there is a big oxbow that i had floated b4 that wasnt too hard to do. That has been a few yrs ago and I have no idea how that fishery is doing now.

Remeber they are running a pulse with the generation..an extra 1750 cfs thru the sluice.

Usually water gets to Betty's 3.5 hrs approx and now in 2hrs approx. Same goes for upstream as it will be a lot sooner.

With your yak you can paddle pretty much any where without facing generation current and about any access will have fish as they stock all they way down to Stonewall.

I used to fish the Obey quite a bit and it fishes really well on low water with the Cumberland pulling creating more current in the river. They were running water pretty steady to make up for the lack of water coming from Center Hill to help cool GSP. If the water is up on the Obey its a tough cookie to fish since after Moody's ramp into Peterbend its deep water all the way to the Cumberland even during no generation.

When the generators are off at the Caney you can float down to the first bend at Lancaster....and then paddle back up. If I can do it I know you can. On the way back up you will have to get out just in one spot and pull your kayak a little ways...but not much walking. Should be able to get into some good trout fishing. But this is with the generators off...and there is alway the Pond for some crappie...Gills...anything really.

How do you know when they plan on running the sluice gates as well?

The TVA site only tells generation units unless it states above in comments.

Army Corp link won't tell you what will be run but breaks down where its coming from that day. You 'll get an idea if they have been running sluice or not. The worst days have been in the past where TVA was showing 0 generation and no notes but you get there at the sluice is running making things too high to wade.

I prefer not to fish after they've run the sluice. I did that one time on falling water after a sluice and the water was full of vegetation. Every cast would end in me picking green residue off my lure.
