Default Caney 8/5

Decided that me and dad needed some cold water therapy so we packed up headed for Betty's around 5am.

We caught several stockers and some holdover brooks that fought bigger than their size. All in all a fun day until the lightning ran us off. It hilarious to watch people scatter like roaches in a light once the lightning started popping around us. Not to make light of it as it is dangerous but sure was funny.

Almost all fish were caught swinging hackles and unfortunately camera was still sitting on the table at home.

Ha! I was out there yesterday with my wife. She's 8 months pregnant, so that added to the fun(!). Lots of rain and lightening. Really need to start believing the weather reports.

I did catch a bunch of browns out of a kayak, all on rooster tails.

Good times. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to set up the fold out couch.

My buddy and I were floating down the river in my basstender when the lightning started. All I could tell myself was "atlest the boat is plastic ". We were doing good up until the rsin started then there was nothing.

Same here. We fished the tail of a pool where it sped up into a riffle with good success until the rain started. About every cast with the soft hackle brought hits. After it hit the water we'd pop about 3-4 short strips then if no takers let it swing. Fun stuff to see fish chase it across the current as it swung.

Sounds like a fun day. My son and I have decided to either fish the Caney...or Elk until the water cools a little. Lightning is nothing to play with. That is the only thing that keeps me off the water. This time of year it gets unsettling to put a kayak in for a float from say the dam down to Happy....and then get caught with lightning popping all around you.

Regards

We went up to the Dam to check things out after getting ran out of Betty's. Standing on the Dam you could see lightning off in the distance popping to the left/right of the river yet a canoe outfit was still unloading several boats and sending people onto the river....even small kids.

I miss the Caney. I'm excited that I'm moving back to Cookeville in roughly 2 weeks to finish my last two semesters at TTU...and fish the Caney as much as possible! Can't wait to see a trout slurp down a wooly bugger again.

Thanks to Agelessone and MNfisher I've learned the tactics for striper fishing below a dam and plan on putting a lot of effort into that below Center Hill Dam soon.
