Default New stuff coming at ICAST 2012 show.

Spiderwire EZ Fluoro
Spiderwire has set its sights on making the easiest casting and limpest — yet strongest — fluorocarbon there is. EZ Fluoro is 100 percent fluorocarbon but formulated to be as abrasion resistant as possible. Its limpness is given in the construction process. Plus, it’s nearly invisible underwater.

Spiderwire Ultra Cast Invisi-Braid
Spiderwire is rolling out several new superlines, one of the most intriguing is Invisi-Braid. It’s braid to the core, but is reported to be translucent for less visibility in the water. A whitish color is said to add to the effect. It’s also made with Dyneema for smooth casting and strength.

Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate braid
We told you that Spiderwire had been busy, and here’s what they’re calling a braided line that combines the best qualities of all desirable braids. Ultimate Braid is an 8-carrier (strand) braided line that’s said to be one of the smoothest casting lines, as well as the standard for strength. Ultimate Braid gets much of its strength from Dyneema.

Berkley NanoFil
While the product isn’t brand new (NanoFil debuted last year), what is new is the fact that the line expanded to include 12-, 14-, and 17-pound tests. This means the superline has a wider range of applications from fishing heavier jigs to worms to spinnerbaits. Previously, 10-pound-testwas the heaviest weight NanoFil available.

Default More ICAST sneak previews

Power-Pole Drift Paddles
If you frequent “big water,” these could come in handy. The Drift Paddles affix to your Power-Poles and, when dunked into the water, slow your drift as the wind howls. Needless to say they’re easier to use than a cumbersome drift sock

Humminbird 360 Imaging
Humminbird is looking to set the electronics world on its ear with 360 Imaging. Rather than scan straight down, the 360 units scan in a circle, allowing you to see everywhere around the boat, including what’s ahead of you. Shown here is a submerged bridge.

Humminbird 360 Imaging
Here you can actually see a fish in a scattering of beds. Because this is in front of the boat, the bass hasn’t been spooked. With traditional sonar equipment, you would have had to have “run over” the fish to graph it, but it likely would not have been there.

These are just a few.

I like the Evolve Lures and looking forward to the Nervous Walker. The Mustang Survival Catalyst Floatation Suit looks pretty sweet, but waiting on a price. I knew about the Pro Angler 12 over a year ago, and waiting for our next Florida trip to pick one up, and see what it’s about.

Sarah already has the Lowrance Elite 4 and really likes the unit, and I cant decide between a Humminbird or Lowrance. I’ve had the Columbia Power Drains for a few months now, and I’m really liking them for a warm weather shoe.

I was hoping we would see a new Shimano Calcutta TE, but instead it looks like they are discontinuing the TE and coming out with the Calcutta D series. That just caused me to buy my first Abu Garcia since 1996.
(This is the most upset I've been in a long time) Abu Garcia, sorry I've been gone for so long. Here I come MGX, Revo Premier, and Toro.

When my Shimano's finally die (1990's version Curado's) I am going with Abu Garcia. They sold me on them when I turned the $49.99 version of the Black Max BMAX2 and it was as smooth as my $200 Curado.

My fav’s were the Black Max 3600, and Pro Max3600. I bought my 1st ones when I was 15. I worked most of the spring saving up for them. At that time I was using the Abu Garcia 4600, and 5600 that were at least 10 years old and I’m sure never cleaned. When I got the Black Max, and Pro Max I thought I was it.

I haven't thrown any ABU Garcia's since then, besides my late grandfathers 6500 C4, and a few customers that I've done some work for. So I haven't had a chance to handle the Black Max2's, or Revos.

Both of those were great reels and I had those prior to as well as with the Curados. A friend of the family had his boat cleared out so I set him up with 8 or so rod/reel combos and he received those plus the 4600's.

If I am not mistaken the 4600's the linewinder actually moved with the line unlike other model Abu's around that time. I always thought that was cool.

Yep, and the 6500 C4 the line guide moves also, and has a bait alarm which is great for trolling.

Check out this 31/0 Mustad Great White hook from the ICAST Show

Mustad pro staffer Tom Booth shows off a 31/0 circle hook that is for real. You use it to catch great white sharks. It weighs 14 pounds, costs $350 and is hand made. Not exactly a drop shot hook.

Wonder what poor sap will draw the short straw and have to unhook that bad boy from the sharks mouth!

Bandit's new Ledge 250 has a thinned lip for quick descents, and an internal weight transfer system for long, helicopter-fre casts.

The Gunfish has grown in 2012 to 135mm (5 1/2 inches) and weighs a full ounce. Those fish that always school just out of range just got in range.

Diamond Fishing Products' best-kept secret has come to light. This new Momoi castable fluorocarbon fishing line will offer small diameters and high-break strengths.

For an idea of comparing this fluoro to say Berkley Vanish. Vanish is .007 dia for 4lb line and Soflex is 6lb for same dia. Berkley 2lb Vanish is .006 and this is .004 for 2.5lbs roughly since Soflex site is in another language and mm.

This topwater bait puts a new spin on poppers. Rather than a popping face, the noise comes from the aft of this bait. When manipulated, the lip makes it dive several inches while the tail "pops" the water around it.

This "snack-size" frog is just 2.4 inches long and weighs in at 3/8-ounce. The sharp nose aids in walking the dog in open water.

It's a trailer, it's a punch bait, it's the Psycho Dad! This one's different because the head of the bait is hollow, allowing for easier rigging and a sure hook set. The tiny flanges on the craw arms will probably add a new dimension to the way it sounds or moves through the water, too

Spro has retuned the McStick jerkbait so it now runs 2 to 4 feet deep and excels over shallow grass. It has a bigger profile and comes standard with three No. 5 Gamakatsu trebles, but according the Mike McClelland, you can make it suspend with three No. 4s

For me by far the coolest this coming out at this years ICAST or shall I say coming back is... Bagley.

Bagley's is back and re-releasing the original square bill crankbait, the Balsa B. Its short, wide body has a rolling action that's ideal for prompting reaction strikes. Three sizes and 10 colors are available.

The Kill'R B is another classic design that has been resurrected.

Also being reintroduced is the Small Fry, balsa panfish and craw imitators.

Rick Clunn won the 1974 Bassmaster Classic on Alabama's Lake Guntersville with this diminutive crankbait. It's the same shape, consistency, look and finish as Cunn's winning bait. Bagley''s is striving to replicate the famous actions and designs that made the brand so popular decades ago.

More fun stuff

The Big Deep Cedar is designed to have realistic sound and movement and to stay in the strike zone longer. Like all Stanford Lures, the Big Deep Cedar is hand-painted and hand-tuned and made in the USA.

Here's the Best Soft Lure category winner at ICAST 2012. It's the Bento Baits minnow and it's super realistic. After tearing one apart, it appears the secret to the flash of this bait is a piece of Mylar tubing inserted in the body of the bait.

The newest Abu Garcia Revo is lightweight, yet super-strong,10 stainless steel HPCR ball bearings plus 1 casting reel features a X2-Craftic alloy frame and C6 carbon sideplates. It comes in left-hand and right-hand retrieve models and two gear ratios. The advancements in this reel are so striking, it won Best of Show for 2012 ICAST.

The Wright & McGill Sabalo is made with a lightweight aluminum frame that's anodized for good looks and corrosion-resistance. It's the best new saltwater fly reel for 2012.
