OH Dam - Hendersonville side access blocked
When did this happen? I've never fished it before but this past weekend me and my father wanted to fish the Hendersonville side right at the dam for stripers only to find a big fence saying access restricted. Of course, it could pretty easily be walked around and there were about 7 people fishing below the dam on our side. I'm assuming they just walked around the fence, am I right? I was worried I'd get busted by the TWRA agent who can't wait to write a citation and get ticketed. Anybody know the scoop here?

I don't know when it was first put up but back in Feb the fence was there.
That's then only time I have been there this year.

You just walk around it? Does the TWRA come out there and ticket people for that?

I did that day and had no problems but I wouldn't take that one time as a rule though.

Are you talking about the road or the walkway to the pumphouse? If you're talking about the walkway, that fence has been up for 2 years at least. Most people just around it. I've never had any trouble. However, I think, starting this past winter they have been working on a bank stabilization project.

Theres another parking lot a little ways down where you can walk down, it doesnt take you directly by the dam but you can certainly walk to it from there. Not far of a walk, just a lot of rocks.

Been there as long as I have fished it for the past year and a half. Just always walk around it. I assume its just a safety precaution so if you get hurt on that walkway, its your fault because you walked around the fence. That way they cannot sue anyone! I am going to continue to walk around it! HA!

Its been there as long as I can remember.I think Finney goes down there quite a bit,and he always walks around. There's a trail going through the woods next to it.I've been down there a few times with him,but my knees can't handle the rocks to well.Never had any trouble from anyone.

Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't get some sort of fine. I have no problem with going around it and taking a hike across the rocks. Next time I'll know what to do. I called the Corps of Engineers to verify that there is no legal consequences for crossing it, it's just there so that we know we fish at our own risk.

That is Corp Property ... TWRA only shows up to make sure you are legal on your creel ... They do not control the property from which you caught them from ... <'TK><

Remember to use caution on that side when walking up/down to the water. It has always (at least last 20 years) since I have been fishing there been a place of tricky getting up and down to the water. IF they felt the need to finally put that up then there should definitely be concern and good judgement used when walking it.
I have seen more than one person fall in off the bank from a rock shifting. Luckily none were from higher up on the bank and both were able to get out.

I hope the only thing that could make me lose my balance would be a big striper smashing my lure!

That fence was put up shortly after the flood, when some of the walkway to the dam area was washed away. Most everyone just walks around it, as some of the other posters have noted. Just be carefull, the path is kinda steep!!
