New Camera.
I am looking for recommendations for a camera...just for stills...to use while fishing that is waterproof. I want one that takes good stills. Does not need to have a fisheye lens but a wide angle would be nice. Will be getting a Go Pro but understand it does not take good stills either. Any advice would be appreciated.

Here is the Olympus Camera that I have. These were all taken with it. Reasonable and waterproof! Can be plunged under water! I never worry about it getting wet!

We've got the Sony DSC-TX10. Love it. Use it for underwater photos and videos. Waterproof to 15 ft, shockproof (dropped from 5 ft), dustproof, freeze proof to -20 degrees.
Takes great photos and videos. i even sold my Canon Rebel EoS because we never used it after buying the Sony.

I would go with Panasonic. Sony also very good.

Interesting. I don't know, but we have had only one issue with it and after 2 years, it took on some water and it broke, we brought it in and they fixed it for free. Great customer service.
Maybe we got lucky! HA!

I have found in reviews you really have to read through most of them that are bad just to see if it is a real concern. But those pics you uploaded are more than good enough for me. Got to do something in the next few weeks as I am catching some beautiful fish and my camera is not doing them justice. Thanks for your input.

The outdoor point and shoot market is large, there are a lot of great manufacturers out there like Sony, Panasonic, Fugi, Canon, Olympus, and the list goes on and on. What is your price range? Because they range from under $100 to around $500.
I have been using Panasonic Lumix camers for the past three years for all of our on the water photography besides when I take the DSLR on the water for special shoots.
We started with the Panasonic Lumix TS-1 three and a half years ago, and two years ago picked up the Panasonic Lumix TS-3. The TS series have performed flawlessly recording video, and shooting stills. They have been used and abused in rivers, lakes, and saltwater and have held up well. I have approximately 5000 shots on the TS-1, and 2000 shots in the TS-3. The TS-1's quality is starting to deteriorate, or maybe that's just me comparing the TS-1 to the TS-2. They are great cameras and had no issues with either.

I will go the other way for you.
I have a Canon PowerShot SD1200IS digital elph. This is the third in that line that I have owned. The camera takes good pictures not great. I feel the older series with less bells n whistles took better pictures which was why I kept buying them.
Compared to the others in the same $200-$300 price range there is probably a better camera on the market.
Canon has always been good but some of the others have caught up in my opinion.

I see that there are many reviews saying how slow the olympus is. I have an older version....almost 4 years old. And it is not slow at all. I have not shot the new ones. The model number of mine is Stylus 1030 SW...my bad. I had the wrong one. But these reviews aren't amazing either.

Thanks guys. You have given me some good choices. All the pics posted looked great....all the cameras mentioned take far better stills than mine...so couldn't go wrong with anyone mentioned I guess. I wanted to spend as little as possible as I will be spending money on Go Pro. But may have to spend more to really get a camera with a wide angle or fish eye lens. When you are by yourself it gets difficult holding fish at arms length....unless you have a wide angle or fisheye. Then if you are on the bank you can set up the camera using the tripod so you can get good perspective of six of fish. But in a kayak...as I am sure all of you know...it is a whole different ball game if you are alone.

I have both the Olympus and the new Nikon AW100. Love both, but the AW100 is a better camera. The video from it is amazing for such a small camera. The stills are perfect as well.

Remember the Go Pro does take stills, and with the waterproof housing you can use it underwater. The stills are pretty good you can set it to 5MP or 11MP, and you can also take good looking stills from video, or set the Go Pro up where it takes a still every second, 3 seconds, or 5 seconds. I wouldn't recommed it as a primary point and shoot, but it will get the job done and done well. If you are taking underwater videos I would recommend a different lens for the waterproof housing because the pictures do distort some.
