When will the caney be wadeable?

I dont really understand all of the data for the river levels but i see that they arent running many generators.

When the generation stops, it's usually wadeable a few hours afterwards depending on where exactly you want to wade. When the water elevation below the dam is around 475, you're good to go.

It's wadeable now. If you see no generation on the two sites that show it then there is a good chance it can be waded. When they run the sluice or even just a generator a few places can be waded but I am not giving those places out because I don't trust them and wouldn't want people to get hurt or drown.

The forecast shows 0.6 all week which should definitely have windows for the day to wade. Today's schedule looks like 7a-6p no units then 1 after that until 10p. That is wade friendly all over the river but expect some areas to probably be completely fallen out and shallow.

I takes the water typically takes twice as long to completely fall out after generation as it does to arrive where you are with generation on the river.

Example.. on 1 unit (adding sluice and/or another unit will cut times down)

Dam arrive 0 mins - fallout 30/45mins

Lancaster arrive 35 mins - fallout 2 hrs

Happy arrive 2 1/2 hrs - fallout 5 hrs

Betty's arrive 3 hrs- fallout 6 hrs

Kirby's arrive 3 1/4 hrs - fallout 6 1/2 hrs

Stonewall/Thayerwilson arrive 6 hrs - fallout ....long time.

When you say "arrive" do you mean the water starts to rise...or it's over your head?

I fished it Saturday morning by the way, after that cold snap.. should have stayed in bed where it was warm. I talked to several people along the way, none of them had caught a single fish. I managed one small rainbow and that's it. Very disappointing.

Yeah, those times are for when the water starts to rise and is completely stopped falling. Use good judge when figuring those into your wading.

I heard one report fishing the river Saturday using fly rods had success.

Other than that, I think all the generation has moved some the grass out and once it comes back the bugs should be good.

Make sure to take sowbugs, scuds and midges if you go.

With the sluice going you should be fine or with 1 generator running as well. A lot of people will float it like that. Both at the same time may be a bit much unless your skilled at kayaking and know how to self rescue. Not as much for rapids but velocity and navigating objects.

That said even with just 1 generator running it can get hairy quickly especially around the bridges and strainers. If you can stay close to the middle and be aware where you are while fighting fish its great time to be on the water catching lots of them.

Crossed the Caney this morning going to Cookeville and it looked great! No generation and people fishing....wished I had time to stop and fish

The Winter has changed the river...but that is what rivers do...change. But in this case the channel has moved somewhat at Happy Hollow....and other places. I have not floated it yet in the kayak with no generation. As for gates.....we would have to have 20 inches of rain for the water to even get to the level that it could run out of the gates. The lake is the lowest I have ever seen it. This should be good news for wade fisherman. I don't see how they can continue to generate a lot with the lake level the way it is. But this is Spring and we are still due some big rains. If that happens then they will generate to keep the level low so the work can go on at the dam. That magic number from the corp has been put at 620 MSL......but if it goes to 620 I don't see how boats could operate in a lot of places on the lake. I have floated it several times at 5600 CFS....that is one generator and sluice. It is not that dangerous.....having said that it is still water...moving water. I flipped once in December a couple of years back...my fault not the river. But I can't fish it well from a kayak when they are generating.....some can.
