Default Percy Priest 03/19-21

My son is on spring break so we decided to go fishing!

03/19 Put in at Stewart's Creek and had a few bites around the fish attractors there. Then we moved on and really got into them in that area but not on the fish attractors. Caught 7 keepers with the biggest being a nice 14" crappie. We were catching crappie at a keeper/throwback ratio of 1:1. It was a beautiful day for fishing with a small amount of wind, had lunch at Fate Sanders Marina. Who knew my son loves fishing so much when we are actually catching!

03/20 Put in at Stewart's Creek caught a white bass and a yellow bass at the fish attractors around the launch area. Fished the flats around stewart's creek and caught a few more fish including a 18" catfish that my son was thrilled about, we regularly catch catfish using noodles, but he has never seen a catfish caught on a rod. The wind picked up and we went to a bay for some swimming and a picnic. Caught a few more after lunch, but had a hard time helping him and dealing with the wind. 6 keepers including the catfish, had some trouble with the motor and had to use the trolling motor to get back.

03/21 Figured out the motor problems and put in at Jefferson Springs, wind was HOWLING, fished around Jefferson Springs and caught a nice yellow bass, but got tired of dealing with the wind. Took off to opposite side of the big island that is near Spring Creek and Jefferson Springs. Caught several crappie and was out of the wind, but all of the crappie were too small, they were still fun to catch. We went swimming again near Fate Sanders and then went back up to Stewart's Creek, but couldn't deal with the wind. We went home after that.

Our setup was pushing 4 poles off the front with minnows and jigs. My son was using a bobber and minnows. Overall a nice 3 day fishing trip with my son. I probably could have caught quite a few more if I went by myself, but it was totally worth it to watch him have a blast catching fish.

I will try to add pictures soon.

Used to do the same thing with my son years ago, he is almost 30 and will do anything to go fishing. What is so great about fishing is that its just you and him, away from all the distractions and you can just enjoy being with each other. Good stuff.

One of my best days out fishing ever was when I took my daughter out with me, last spring.
