Default Heading to the Obey

The family and I will be camping riverside on the Obey all weekend. Should be a relaxing trip plus some fishing will be involved as well. I should have pictures of my little one holding her first trout when we get back.

I'll post a fishing report and some scenery pics incase some of you haven't had a chance to get up there. The water color is amzaing on the Obey.

I don't have my camera downloaded yet but the trip was very relaxing and a fun first camping excursion for wife plus two little ones. It was full of exciting obstacles as all things are with kids.

Here is a little fun story of the trip.

Once we arrived late friday afternoon my wife took the kids for a walk while I put up/bent one of the poles for the tent. Thanks to a passer by Mr. Walker the tent went up a lot easier. Now, I am starting to pull things out of the tent and my wife and kids stroll up the with kids soaking wet covered in mud. Apparently, they found a mud hole before my wife did and stomping began. That is perfectly fine during summer but a soaking wet 1 & almost 4 year old as night was creepin in around 49 degrees did not feel too good. The fun did not stop there. We left our bag of pillows and all the girls extra jeans. So my next step was to build a fire then dry everything. An actual dryer would have worked wonders but the trip to Chuck-E-Cheese the week before cleaned me out of car quarters. Finally, all is dry and we got to sleep.

Day two brought more fun less stress. After a bacon and eggs bacon provided by yours truly we took the big little one out for a roller skate around the campground. We got back to campsite made lunch getting ready to hit Hatchery Creek for some first trout pics. While I was sitting in the chair munching lunch I felt a little scratchy feeling on my right shoulder. Not thinking much kept on eating then got up to change clothes as it was now pretty warm outside. As I pulled off my shirt my wife screamed "Oh my ..D!" My daughter goes look daddy a caterpillar can we keep him. Up until that point I knew nothing about those things and the fact that they can sting. The scratchy feeling earlier was his hairs and everywhere his hair touched was a sting. My whole shoulder covering my shoulder blade down to and under my arm was bumps, red and swollen. It felt really like a bad sunburn. A couple benedryl later we were on to fishing.

Day three was uneventful and mainly your mad dash to get home but all in all the trip was a success. Two little ones and we stayed both night on their first campouts. My wife hadn't been since teen years in Cali and she really enjoyed it too.

I sure wish the Obey wasn't blown out so much to fish it as well. We stayed in the creek mostly and ate a few fire side. All fish were caught in the Trout Magnet. Other were having problems catching the as frequent as I did. My dauhgter ended up trying but not wanting assistance so we'll try next time for her first.

Good times with family.

I ge more fishing in on my Caney Trip in a couple weeks.

I remember those family camping trips...LOL. Sounds liike you had a great time. Fishing the Ditch can be hard....depending on what the water release is. I have driven up there in December before and caught only one fish...but was thankful for that. Even though there was no generation the Cumberland was backed up and the water level hardly dropped. Still a beautiful place to fish though.

Regards
