Default Catfish with Jugs JPP 05/24/2011

My son(7) and I went out with the homemade swim noodle jugs and caught 9 nice catfish. This method is great for giving kids an exciting time on the water. We set out around 20 noodles in a cove around mid-lake just off the chanel. We fished from 1530-1830. We spent some of the time chasing down about 10 of the noodles that blew across the lake. The biggest fish was the first one, it weighed just over 5lbs. We used 2 minnows on each jug. It is so fun to chase the bobbing noodles down. We caught the last 2 as we were picking up the noodles to go home. Sorry about the pic, it was from my phone.

I skin them and then filet them. I will probably make fried nuggets out of them. The filets seemed to be too big to cook whole. Surprisingly the last few times out (at east fork) we would get more bites earlier in the evening (around 4 or 5) instead of late evening near dark. Every time recently we will have a fish on by the time we put the last noodle out. This time though it was kind of steady throughout, except for when the noodles blew across the lake. It was cool because normally my son gets pretty bored fishing, but this time he didn't want to go home. I may try some cicadas next time. I saw somebody else post that they caught some using them.
