A person would think so Walt. But for the moment , they still have plenty of food in the main river and the water temps are more to their liking in the main channel.
The rockfish prefer the 56 degrees in the river to the 74 degrees in the discharge.
The rockfish will stick to the river until the cold water drives the bait into the discharge, when the food disappears, they will hit GSP.
But, of course, many will remain in the river as their metabolism slows down and they don't require as many calories, they will feed less often and on smaller prey.

Took a retired buddy of mine out today. He's actually new to fishing. Something he decided he wanted to try since his retirement (he's 72). I got him on some bream beds this spring, but he had no idea what he was about to experience with those tilapia. He was like a kid, it was fun to watch him enjoy it. We caught 52 before the wind kicked up and the temperature started dropping. We kept 20 for eating. He doesn't know how to clean them, but I told him I'd do it for him (the first time, but then he's going to have to learn! LOL).

My highlight was whipping out the 4wt flyrod and finishing out catching the rest of mine on fly. What a blast.

Yes, Sunday afternoon for a few hours, but I was by myself. I wanted to scout it before asking my buddy to come ... who drove up from Murfreesboro.

Today, we got there at 10, right when the rain let up. There was five boats, all were catching tilapia. Three on the left side, two on the right. I think those things are pretty much everywhere right now.

I was out Sunday in my sun camo feel free yak. I think you were fishing the left side point when I was leaving. I'm thinking About going Saturday morning, cold and miserable could lead to catching a lot of fish

How long does it take to paddle to the nearest ramp? I've got a yak, but like the flatsboat for creature comforts, like cooler of food, drink, being able to walk around, and of course, peeing ... LOL.

Yeah, I did pretty well that day. I left with 30 or so tilapia and a crappie. Caught or missed a fish on every cast for over a hour at one point. The closest ramp is Coles Ferry, it's about a 1/2 mile paddle. I would rather fish out of my bass boat but for what I am doing there it's not worth me dragging it 45 minutes. I can stand up in my yak and as long as I can get through my layers I can pee too

You guys just don't know how hard it is for me to watch you catch those fish one after another from the other side of the barrier...Lots of activity at daylight occurring in the first eddy down at the barrier...second bend of the discharge is also very active at daylight where the hatchery intake is.
