Love the Caney...no, hate the Caney
Rough day, threw everything I had...nada. only thing that makes me feel better is that I caught just as many as everyone else out there that I talked to.

It was tough this morning. I fished from 3:30-10:00 and only managed 10 or 12. I did manage this big girl and a 5 or 6lb channel cat. Go figure

What area were you fishing? I was in Gordonsville. It's been kind of hit or miss for me everytime I've been there. Maybe it's just me, forgot how to fish.

Nice man. I've been on a pretty good roll here lately so I guess I was due for an off day.

Troutspin, you may want to focus closer to the Dam when we get into the 90° plus temperatures.
Even though the water stays fairly cool down towards Gordonsville the trout definitely gather more in numbers the closer to the Dam that you get this time of year.

Thanks for the advice. That does make sense. I don't get to fish nearly as much as I'd like, and my last couple of outings have been a bit frustrating. Starting to "get in my head" like a batter in a slump Been trying to think of why I got skunked today. That sounds like a good reason to me, think I'll roll with that Seriously, thanks for the good advice.

I agree with many others about staying closer to the dam during this hot weather. I have only fished once since returning from WV,and that is another trout catching adventure, and I fished from steps down to halfway to first bend and caught 71 in around 4 hours. A lot of those were nice size trout and all Rainbows.

Heck of a day there. Numbers are definitely better up by the dam but the crowds drive me nuts. The only time I can fish is on weekends so I typically only fish the pond in the dark anymore. Soon as it gets light I pack up and head further downriver. Numbers aren't near as good but it's a lot more peaceful and average size is better for me anyways.

Same here, I've caught bigger fish down by the dam but the crowds are unbearable. I need to start fishing at night too, just don't feel comfortable to really do that just yet.Gotta get to know the water a little better. I do pretty good at the rest stop almost everytime I go. Got there at 5:30 am and wasn't a soul there and I don't think I seen more than 4 or 5 people fishing while I was there .. I didn't see the first kayak till about 9:30 am.. Most of the fish were under 14" but I did catch 3 or 4 that were in the protected size range.
