weasel looking critter
Im camping on Bear Island and heard a little rustle in the leaves on the shoreline. A weasel looking thing. It was in the shadows so i couldnt tell if it was black or brown but it looked to have a grey/white-ish head/neck.
I did a google search but didnt find anything that looked too similar. Aside from the chupacabra and bigfoot...lol....what could it have been?
And yes, im positive it wasnt an obese squirrel. Lol

Lol, no it wasnt a skunk. Unless skunks swim and catch fish. Lol.
I dont think it was a muskrat either, it was too long and slender in comparison and its tail was thicker than any muskrat ive seen.
Defenitely in the weasel family if i had to make a bet. Cute looking and caught quite a few fish too! lol

If he was catching fish, double ferret sized, and heavy tail, my guess would be an otter.

I hit a grass bed early yesterday and an otter type fellow was chasing fish
all through out the grass he would stay under then bust the fish to the surface even saw a 12" bass jump out of the water.
First I though oh man what a large mouth in there till I saw the grass rolling away and the large wake by the fellow.

I saw an Otter on the upper end of Old Hickory last fall. Also below the dam there is a family of Otters living on the long island just south of the OHB bridge. I never realized how big them rascals are until you see them in real life.

For sure sounds like an otter or mink, depends on the size of it.

Could be young of the year otter as well. Mother won't be far behind. I found a family of them creek fishing a few years ago. There were 5 in the rock pile I was standing on, and one of them was growling at me. I let them have that hole.
