Default Fishing with Deb Smith

Got a late start today (Easter Sunday) with Deb Smith due to me liking to sleep late!
Hit the water about 10:30 and motored around for about an hour, looking for likely suspects, Namely Hybrid Bass.

Finally found some in a cove far, far away in a spot never fished by anyone EVER...on Percy Priest lake.

We used live shiners instead of artificials and it started paying dividends pretty quick after we set our down lines out.

Wound up catching 5 nice hybrids and a short one. The impending rain caused us to halt fishing and hightail it for the dock before the skies opened up.

Just had enough time to snap some photos and then get gone before the rains came.

Good report!
so did you use live shiners because of the weather, or ease of fishability for the client?
Im heading out saturday for hybrids and intented on getting shiners due to the predicted cold front. Since i dont have a bait tank, shiners lifespan in my boat isnt long most times. Lol

We used shiners as that was the easiest way to have multiple baits in the water, vs two people casting lures.
6 rods with shiners AND two of us casting flukes.

Great day of fishing! Were you on the lower end? I went Saturday and took Bradley hoping to get him on his first hybrid but to our luck the lake was in full turnover on the lower end. Chunks of algae floating around and a reddish stain all over the place. I paddled for miles and didn't mark a single school of fish on my depthfinder. I was shocked since the action had been so good lately. I ran into Chris (txnative) and he was in the same situation, very surprised at the lack of action anywhere. No fish caught.
