Default Thanks Santa!

Who could resist fishing on a beautiful day like today. It's Christmas Eve and the kids and wife will be asleep until 8am.

I got out with intentions of just busting the bank for a few hours to blow off some steam. Just as the sun was rising the bait started busting the surface so like a true addict I threw my cast net and filled the bait tank with water.

I fished an area of OH that I've never tried for Striper but I read something Ralph Dallas wrote in a book many years ago about winter Stripers in this area so I decided not to let these beautiful shad go to waste. Within 15 minutes of putting out my spread with boards, a balloon and 1 down line, this girl decided to eat breakfast. Second biggest fish I've ever caught and I was planning to be happy with a few bluegill on ultralight tackle today.

My bait tank is 32 inches long and 18 inches wide.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Nice catch! Did you get any other hits? What's was the winter tip in Ralph's book if you don't mind sharing?

I've had Ralph Dallas on my boat as a client. He was full of great stories and very humble, a pure class act. Nice fish btw..

Thanks everyone! I went back this morning and they were still there! 5 strikes without a hookup and 2 hookups which were both lost :-( I share the spot with a buddy who landed a 13 lb hybrid on a shiner shortly after I left.

Heading out in the AM before church for round 3.

I have that book.... he identifies Drakes creek as a good wintertime striper haunt.
