Enter some tourney's as a co-angler. I did that first just to get a clue before going from the front. Watch your boater closely and learn.
Enter some small, low stakes team events so you can have fun with a friend. There is one on Sunday morning our of Saunders that is only $15 for one or $25 for 2 people. It's more for fun and most of the folks are in it just for a little entertainment, not for the money.
Most of the clubs and such are winding down for the year, so ask around during the off-season and find something that is a good match.
And, of course, practice! Finding the fish is often times much harder than catching them. No magic to finding them other than getting out there and trying.
