Think Normandy is done.

Water temps at Normandy are close to 70 degrees. Just letting folks know in case someone is thinking of going there to fish. The few trout I caught today...meaning only 4....didn't put up any fight at all.

I have caught trout all the way into late july. granted it slowed down near the end of july. but I have heard ppl say it does hold over trout.

I have caught them there into July in past years also.....but this ain't gone be one of those years. Rainbows will go off feeding when water gets 67-68 degrees....become stressed at 68-69....stop growing at 75 degrees....and 77 degrees is the upper limit they can survive. I have measured the temps below dam in late July in the 80's. As for trout holding over at Normandy...that's a myth. There may be an occasional one caught that finds a deep cold water spot somewhere but it is rare. Many people think Normandy holds trout over because they...or someone they know...catches a 18-21 inch rainbow. They think that fish has grown up in there. They don't realize that every stocking truck puts a few trophy fish in at each stocking. What about bass fishing from the bank? I was planning a trip there for bass.

If you are talking about bass in the river....below the dam......I have never caught many bass at all in that area except in very early spring when the spotted bass make a big run up the river. I'm sure as you make your way down river and get into some deep holes you may find some bass. If I wanted bass from Normandy I would fish in the lake.

We fished below Normandy Tuesday also. We caught 15 or 16 but only three were 12 inches or better. Saw a lot of people up by the dam but did not see anybody catching anything. Had a lot of rollups but didn't connect on the majority of them.

I hope it can hold out but with those water temps I don't think so. But I will still check it out every few days or so. Time to hit the Caney.

Sorry, that's what I mean lol.. bass fishing from the lake banks.. Is is a productive lake for that?
