FINALLY got the boat in the water today

Got to long hunter about 9:00 and sat the ran out for about 30 minutes. Fished about 3 hours before looking west and saw the treeline dissapear behind the rain curtain.
Throwing a shallow diving square bill on the rocky shoreline awarded me 7 largemouth. Biggest about 2 lbs.
I also got a new "first"! 2 bass on 1 crankbait! so that was pretty cool! Had a few swipes on a top water but no hook-ups. Tried the Slab Magnets i got at the fishing show and boated 4 crappies. No keepers but they did hit em hard so ive got some high hopes as a Bobby Garland alternative. I did take a razor and split the tail for even more action....looks deadly with the 2 longer tails waving around.
Seen some big ole gars in the super shallows right up on the bank too! a couple of real bruisers!.
Tried out some new Rip Cord Longcast Braid today. Pretty good line. Super slick, casts a mile, lays on the reel good!
Water got up to 68.7 degrees.
6 out of the 7 bass all had those black blotches on them. One looked like it was wearing lipstick.
It felt great to finally be back on the water! 3 months is way too long to be on dry land!

Thanks Alpha! yeah they already have some good action, dont get me wrong, but that split tail looks pretty inviting too! they seem pretty durable so breaking/pulling off the tails shouldnt be too much of a concern from what i can tell so far.

Yeah its made/sold through Cabelas. i used to use thier earlier generation lines several years ago then found Power Pro cause i could get that local, but i found this at Cabelas out in denver on a work trip and figured i would try it. First Impression on a windy day with the 4lb dia. was pretty good. i will see how well it holds up in the long haul.

Cool, I was also a Power Pro user for a long time, but have recently been trying other braids trying to find better.

I like power pro for its price point, it does the job. Ive got a spool of Academys H20 express braid too which is priced good. Im not as demanding of my equipment as alot of other guys are on here, and they all have thier own good reasons such as tourneys or guide services as to the ewuipment they purchase. i would love to have a few of the high end Smoke Series reels or Japanese imports but my fishing doesnt really justify it. Lol.
I dont say this about hardly any of thier stuff, but the Bass Pro Excel mono in my opinion is best mono ive used. Cheap, tough as nails so thats what my mono reels are spooled with.
I dump some good money though on my river/vertical jigging set ups though. Thats my bread and butter so i reach a little deeper in the pockets for that gear! lol

Power pro has always treated me well. I picked up two spools of spider wire a month and a half ago because it was buy one get one free. I have yet to put it through the wringer so I can't speak on the quality. How long do you guys fish with the same Braid before taking it off?? I tend to switch it out every 6 months or so. I did start reversing it on my reels, that works great by the way (reel off one and onto another).

I used spiderwire 20lb braid all winter on striper. No complaints except when it was in the teens then lots of complaints but that is a given at those temps. Freezing wind knots were a pain and lost a lot of line due to it. Probably should have switched to mono during those times.

Huge YES to power pro super 8 slick. maybe not the best, but great braided line.

I bought a spool of the hi-viz orange stren braid, couldnt tell ya the exact name but its been in service 4 years this past winter. I do the same thing with my power pro line though, swap reels and i will get a full season if not more out of a spool.
Im NOT a fan of fireline though. Better off using dental floss in my opinion. Lol.
But you guys throwing in heavy grass or flipping heavy timber might see different line wear.

I love light Fireline. As in 8-14 lb. casts a mile, great for jerk baits, flukes, shaky heads, etc., not too fond of heavier stuff.
