Humminbird 571

Cabela's seems to have a good sale price on the 571 HD DI . I was wondering if anyone might have an opinion on this model. I'd love to have a Lowrance HDS, but I'm afraid they're beyond my budget, so I'd like to find a good ,reasonably priced unit. Thanks for any and all opinions. --Should I have posted this in Sports Lounge or is it ok here? Thanks

Might want to consider the Helix model, good comments about it but no 1st hand experience with either.

No, don't think it's color, Juice. It says DualBeam PLUS 83/200 kHz and down imaging 455/800kHz . Was $259.99 now $129.99

Don't. Spend a little more and get color. Humminbird has the Helix for 199.99 and Helix DI for 249.00. To me DI is not worth the extra money, SI is. I want to get the Helix SI for the yak at some point

I'd love to get a new color unit on my yak but for the fishing I do the only time I need to even have a unit on is a month or so in summer.

Time = Money hasn't balanced for me yet on that one.

Agree with Juice, if I ever get a new one it will be color of some sort and have GPS capabilities. Lesser than that to me isn't worth the money...just use a map and contours on my phone. But that fits my fishing style and what I am after not necessarily for everyone.

My elite 5 on my yak does not have GPS. I use my navionics on my phone. I use my phone more than I use the map on my Elite 7 map on on bass boat.

whats the logic in the big push for color? what are the benefits of color over the black and white? By color im assuming the Yellow, Red, Green and blue all showing on the screen, and not just the background color correct?

Color is easier for me to tell bottom hardness and differences between a floating stick / fish.

I have used them but never owned. Some models are good enough to even tell fish species with the color return from the fish.

Interesting. i figured the sole purpose was to give people a different option for eye strain at various times of day light. Never would have guessed it would be that much more involved.

It is more involved than just the black n white/grayscale ones. But in the same token a depthfinder is only ever as good as the person using it. There are plenty of fishermen who can still look at an old flasher and get the same info as some guys checking out a HDS unit.

With color it's easier to tell the contrast between solid and faint returns. You can also tell the difference in the species of the fish you are looking at. With monochrome units it's tough for me to see all the little variations in bottom texture/conture along with the strength of the return on fish. I have used both and see no point in getting a monochrome unit anymore. If anyone is around Mufreesboro or fishes around me I would be more than willing to let you check mine out. I don't mind helping you learn to read them better too.

In all seriousness, that makes sense. Ive never done much research into the different units to that extent. I just play with em all at bass pro and decide what i want from there. I think the humminbird 360 Would be a perfect match for my $600 boat! LOL

You don't need sonar to catch my crappie at the moment 360 would be nice. I would be happy with SI. I really think by this summer I am going to break down and get a helix. I don't care for Humminbird 2D but the SI for 500 is worth it.
