Wading for JPP Hybrids 4/5
I needed a night like this since I'm 0 for 2 on Turkey hunting. I had a blast. Landed 8, 7 of which were over 20 inches. I quickly got my allowed two 21" fatties on my stringer. I was wearing the GoPro on my head and got lots of hooksets and drag peeling. I fished 4pm-6pm so I left before the best fishing time but I had things to do and make a very early flight.
I'm out of town now but am planning to try it again this weekend while I'm back. Another night like last night and I'll have a heck of a highlight reel to make a video and add some music. I even got footage of the GoPro underwater when I released a couple of them.
I also met Fisher01. He was fishing near me and we had doubles on twice!
Besides the whole fishing rods getting stolen thing, it was a great way to end Easter and never forget to thank our Creator for giving us such beautiful outdoors to enjoy the sport we love!

Good catch Jimmy. I got a hybrid a little over 16" on Saturday fishing off the bank. Got exciting on 2 lb line on a Bionic Blade ultra lite.
Good thing I was using a 2 ft. 90 lb braid leader.
Sorry about your loss of equipment.

I'm using a 1/4 ounce jighead and steady retrieving while twitching the rod tip to give it some action. They absolutely hammer it when they strike. It's not like a bass gently picking up a plastic worm!
I'd say every turn or two of the reel I'd quickly pick up the rod tip, that's the twitching speed. That could need to vary from day to day, let the fish tell you what they want. I've been there before and wasn't able to catch them on a weighted fluke so I tried weightless. I'd very very slowly reel it in while twitching a few times every 2 or 3 turns of the reel and that's what worked.

Definitely spot on with the retrieve technique.
Good looking fish. Sounds like a good trip.

I have to keep that spot quiet, sorry. Enough people already know about it and a friend told me about it. I will tell you, however, that this time of year the Hybrids can be found in coves chasing shad. Do your searching on Google, find a cove on Percy Priest and give it a try. It won't last much longer so get on it while it's hot.

They sure do, I think they fight harder than the Rockfish do. I love how aggressively they hit. They'd almost yank the rod from me when they smashed that fluke!
I got into some decent Rockfish in the Fall and early Winter and had a lot of fun but getting into some aggressive Hybrids, even though they are smaller, is a lot more fun in my opinion.

the best topwater action is not even happening yet. The best is in month of May. . One thing to remember is the wind is your friend most of the time. I would keep a cork and fluke on at least one rod at all times. I will put a pic of what I use when I get time. The hybrids move and they move alot. Cover a lot of water and you can find them, when you do it is a blast. I have literally spent hundreds and hundreds of hours chasing them, and I promise you the best topwater is generally in May, that is all I will share about that though.

That's the result of two years worth of putting that kayak overhead and walking up stairs to my apartment with it haha. Thank God I'll soon be done with that, we close on our first house next Friday!
