a small hybrid and a few crappie

caught several hybrid Friday afternoon. had to kill one, swallowed a jumpin minnow. My friend, Tater, got one to eat. I do not eat them and do not keep them except to give away to those who do.



Got to fish couple hours for crappie Saturday, Fate Sanders area, had 21 keepers. some nice ones, few better than 13".

What was the water temps at dusk or dark if you don't mind me asking?

I don't know on Friday, but it has consistently been 64 around Fate Sanders and that is what it was on Saturday. I caught them decently again yesterday, only difference was the biggest was 5 lbs instead of Friday when the biggest was almost 14 lbs.

all on cork and fluke yesterday. cork and fluke and jumpin minnow caught them Friday.

I fish at night year round was why I was wondering and change places as the weather changes.

Is there specific areas you target with the jumpin minnow? I wear out the hybrids on a fluke, but I can't catch one on a topwater.

anywhere I catch hybrids. Cork and fluke is probably number 1 with jumpin minnow being second as far catching goes. Enjoyment, redfin is my favorite. a friend of mine was catching them on a redfin Friday. close to the dam.

Do you watch for the cork to go under or just use it as a popping device then feel for the hit?

I am wondering if it could be effective at night.

cork and fluke is effective anytime. it is a for sure a popping device, to me more of a casting aid for distance than an attractant to fish but it sure works for hybrids. 5/0 straight gamakatsu with a pearl white or white ice super fluke is what I prefer. I use 15 lb fluorocarbon from the cork to the hook. 30 lb super slick power pro on the reel.

Cool, thanks! May add it to the list to throw at them when I am not trolling.

Hopefully it's not too much of a bugger to chuck from a kayak.

They're easy to throw from a kayak. I threw popping corks with Gulp shrimp when I was fishing in Gulf Shores last summer with no problem.

I think the trick to catching em on top is persistence. I throw top water for hours sometimes with no luck and then bam it happens.
