What type of flies work best for carp? I just learned how to tie a hair rig for my spinning setup. I have been using corn with no luck yet. I ordered some boilies, hopefully boilies or corn will land something. The setup I'm using now is a 7' ugly stik catfish rod, okuma abf 50 with 20# bg mono tied to a braid or mono hair rig. Once I get better with the fly I have a 4 and 6wt setup.

I would use your 6 for sure. You can catch them on big nymphs, crayfish patterns, crab patterns and woolly boogers. I would stick to a pattern that rides hook up. If you tie or start tying leave out the flash.

When I was a teenager, we would always go below OLD Hickory dam when the bass went on bed and would always catch lots of BIG carp on 6 pound test and light action rod. We would always use a commercially prepared carp bait you could buy in the local bait shops and it worked like a charm. There would always be Asians down there and they would run up the banks for a hundred yards with their huge dip nets to get the fish and they would even take them off the hook for you. Many days they couldn't even carry all the fish up the bank. Those were the days (when the bass were on bed).

Here's a carp I caught today on O.H., using a green woolie booger. Took about ten minutes to land him. Went a little over 11 pounds.

I generally flyfish the small creeks around Columbia and Spring Hill. I have yet to see any carp though I have see a few (very few) drum but have not caught one on the fly. I have noticed that most of you carpers seem to be up north. Does anyone know of any carp areas down here. I am not interested in any contest. I just want to get into some carp to throw a fly at. I haven't caught a carp in 50 years and would like to get re-interduced.

Feel free to pm me if you don't want to expose and area. I am a C&R kinda guy. The only fish that I have killed knowingly in the last 25 years is a saltwater species just cause I wanted to see how it tasted. It was quite good by the way. It was just as good as walleye.
