Mike it is an 6' 6" one piece UL made with an MHX freshwater blank. It is perfect for crappie...and it will do well for Gills also. I am not affiliated anyway with Kissel Krafts Rods. I saw a crappie fishing show with this rod...or I should say rod made with that blank.....and called and asked them about the rod. They asked would I be a guinea pig and try out their crappie rod made with the new microwave guide. He told me not to send him any money until I use it and if I don't like it just send it back. Well I haven't caught a fish yet as I have not been fishing but I stand on my porch and cast this thing and it casts like a dream. They have good feedback on the rods made with those guides for bass guys but my rod is the first in a light or UL they have made with that guide. Well I liked it so much that I ordered a 7' 3" UL with a moderate tip...under same deal...if I don't like it send it back. Cant beat that deal. Now whether they will do that for everyone I don't know. It is a family business and have been making rods for 45 years. I plan on giving feedback on these rods on March 1st...God willing. old sailor hit the nail on the head about these guides.....I think for UL they are a great thing. Hopefully you and I can hook up and hit that point at Pickwick in March-April....and you can try it out if you like.

Thanks! Sounds like a great rod! Looking forward to making a trip to Pickwick with you again! I might head there with my father mid February when he is visiting. Especially if this flow stays up.

Supposedly the deal with microwave guide compared that when using microguides is that the lowermost guide is way up the rod with just micros. With the microwave, you can add it lower down on the blank (due to the added height) but still keep the tight spiral of the micros.

If you will look at the videos on youtube you will see what that first guide does. You can't see it with the naked eye...it is too fast. It takes the vibration out of a cast. Chomping at the bit to try this rod out.

I just ordered a " Patriot" 7' light action rod with the MicroWave guides from Kissel Krafts.
Can't wait til it gets here. Two weeks, pay AFTER you get the rod!

The crappie rod they made for me is absolutely perfect....meets all my expectations. I also have a 7' 3" rod I ordered for casting UL cranks with 4# or 6# test line. I bought a bunch of Rapalas new UL series of deep diving crank baits and really had no rod to use them with. They are a bit too heavy to use on a true UL with 2# test. I have already tested it out at Williamsport and it fits the bill perfect. Can't beat the fact that those folks will build you a rod and if you don't like it you just pay shipping and send it back. If your reading Walt I have to take the kayak out to try out my new Gill rod. I don't want to lay it down on the rocks on the bank and mess up the inlays and scratch it up. Williamsport is still a few weeks way for some great Gill action. Water is only 54 degrees.
