Evening on the Caney

Wow. This sounds similar to your technique Browntrout but with live bait. When you catch those large browns like this and you are swiftly moving downstream how do you steer and land at the same time? When you are running solo.

Believe it or not it is normally not a problem. I float down the river backwards, in other words the back of boat is floating down the river first. I also normally leave my engine running so if I do need to correct I just have to engage the motor with the tiller steer handle. Most of the time I am in the middle of the river so it is no problem while I am landing a fish. That is the benefit of throwing those big cranks is that you can cast them a long distance and cover a lot of water, thus you can be out in the middle of the river away from over hanging trees and etc.

Ok, that's how I fish from canoe in the daytime only without generation. I use a small river anchor that dropd from the front. I still have my eye out for one of those dandy RiverHawks though. Can 2 guys really stand and fish from it?

Roy I am sure will answer that question but I will put in my two cents worth as I fish with him in the new B60 and also fished the old one. Yes two can stand and fish....and while Roy may not tell you but I weigh 300 pounds now.....was at almost 340. There was never a problem fishing in it. The B60 is much more comfortable but the smaller boat he had was not a problem either. But the B60 is a sweet boat on the river and we both have stood and moved around in it at the same time. So if it can handle me and Roy it is very stable. I am ready for him to call and plan a trip. I enjoy catching fish but just seeing the followers we have on a trip is pretty awesome. There are some really big trout in the Caney.

Sweet. About how much of the boat is below water level would you say? As far as using the trolling motor could you go upstream with 250 cfs? I know it's wider than a canoe but was thinking as far as night fishing on the Caney.

As alphahawk said in the B60 it is plenty comfortable for 2 to stand. Alphahawk is 300 and I am 215 and we have had no problems. In the original that I had it was comfortable to fish out of but the 2 of us couldn't stand at the same time. I would most definetly get the B60 as it is a lot more comfortable and roomy. I much prefer to be out when they are pulling water so the more stability that I have the safer I feel. I never felt unsafe in the original but the B60 is by far a more stable platform to fish from.

It drafts in 5 to 6 inches and you could use a trolling motor to go upstream against 250 cfs easy. Could even run the big engine through the deep holes.

I can go upstream on 250cfs in my 14ft polarkraft with a 44lb troller, battery, (2) 175lb guys, anchor and fishing gear.

It's not fast and in places where it gets flat shallow swift like right at Happy it chugs a little but in deeper slack type water it will move pretty good.

The trolling motor used to be better because at the Obey on 2 generators I could move upstream against the current but its a little different animal being deep/narrow. Thinking my old charger isn't charging at the full strength anymore.

I am also wanting to buy either a RiverHawk or an Aluminum V-Hull for the Caney. I am leaning towards an Aluminum V-Hull though due to price mostly. Any of you Caney Fork guys have a recommendation or can you offer some pro's/cons between the two?

No that is the original. I think you would be disappointed with just the 5HP on there. I had an 8HP on my original and it was a push going upstream with me and Alphahawk in it. (of course we pretty big boys) I would look for an original with at least a 9.9 or if you want the B-60 I would recommend at least a 20HP and preferably a 25. JMO>

It doesn't look wide enough to be a B60. The boat looks more like a an original.

Most of the B60's I have see has two handles on the transom.

I'd get what ever the mfg high rating was for the model of riverhawk you get. Better to have too much than not enough.

The boat listed is probably an older 13ft original that maxed out at 5hp.

Yeah, I'm keepin my eyes peeled for a B60. Is the 3rd seat in the middle a good idea? My 2 older boys are 8,10 and love the outdoors.
