That's the fish... I have seen them regulary sipping in the white foam line along the Cumberland.

Tough dudes's to catch but boy they do make a nice TARP plaque in the garage.

I was flyfishing in Cane Creek Park last night having a good time with the bluegill when I caught a white bass. In a tiny lake that isn't stocked with them and has no creeks running into it from anywhere. I saw another one take a swipe at my fly but I missed it. I was pretty surprised. with the nature of this thread, take this as you will. I used to catch white bass and stock a pond that we were renting. They survived very well. I stocked this same creek fed pond with all my leftover creek minnows and crayfish and they all survived pretty well. You could see the pond from the road before you turned in and I could spot this school of fast moving shadows that was the white bass.

Aside from someone stocking the water, these fish follow the winter/spring rains upstream as far as they can go. Some get left behind to deeper pools when the faucet cuts off.

There is a story in Illinois Outdoors magazine that tells of that crappie. it was 4 lbs. 5oz,two ounces shy of the state record.
