They will be stocking the Harpeth inf Franklin with trout starting in December. With the exception of the stocked trout, I don't know that I would eat any fish out of the Harpeth. But, that I guess is my personal preference.

Williamson County dumps their sewage upstream. They CLAIM it is safe but their is a huge lawsuit against them over those claims. Otherwise, it is a fairly small river at that point and is subject to lots of animal and chemical run-off. It's just not a body of water that I feel comfortable eating out of.

well that sucks. The fish tasted great...I'm going to try to think of it as though they are marinating prior to being caught. There isn't any other place to fish near my home that I'm aware of.

I used to fish the Harpeth in Franklin and most of the fish I caught had some type of growth on them in the late 80's. As prior mentioned, sewage and chemicals plagued the river in that area for many a year. Egyptian Lacquer was the big polluter many times with numerous spills behind the fort. The narrows seemed to be the better fishing area and is easily accessible with a canoe. I have caught numerous fish on the river and always had a blast. The Duck River is also a great choice always producing nice catches and is just a short trip down 31 in Columbia.

I'm new to TN. Been visiting the harpeth in Franklin pretty regularly since I got here. I'm trying to figure out what i've been catching. usually it's small blue gill (i'm pretty sure) but sometimes I catch fish that really don't look much different from the blue gill but people keep saying they are bass. Today I think I got some red eye bass ( guessing based on names i've heard people around here say, some small mouths, a drum (no idea..is there another name for a drum?) and then I assume the bottom one is a channel cat.

so theoretically the fish should be ok these days?

It took me quite a while to figure out where I could actually fish in franklin. It'd suck if it really wasn't safe to eat the fish.

In San Diego it was much easier to figure out where it was ok to fish. Nothing was nearly as convenient as the spot i've been going to here.

Most the spots I've come across out here seem like they are on private property or aren't easily accessible on foot.

I'll have to look into the duck river. The spot i've been going to is like 5 or 6 minutes from my house. It's ridiculously convenient and there is hardly ever anyone else there.
