While it is not the most expensive rod I have gotten out of Japan it is really a great rod. MidTNKayakAngler just got two Volkey BFS rods himself from Japan.

I have a Volkey as well lol, and an MS-X on the way.

I have 3 rods from Major Craft. Best bang for the buck IMHO.

Very nice rods Alpha. Have you ever thought of trying an ultra lite bait casting finesse outfit?

I have. Up until 2004 I owned a ton of bait casting reels. But I would have no clue as to what to look for in the reel department to throw a 1/32 ounce bait. Have you done it and if so what pound test line have you used and what kind of distance did you achieve. Also I would think backlash would be a big issue....but I'm sure bait casters have changed a ton in the past 11 years. I do know I have seen blogs...all in Japanese of course....where they had bait casters mounted on light trout rods.

I haven't done it. The Pixy and Volkey rod Sarah just got will be for smallmouth and using 5# test and baits 1/4oz down to 1/32 oz, but will probably not go that low. The Aldebaran and Volkey will be spooled with 4lb test and I'll be throwing much lighter stuff like hopefully Trout Magnets, and Trout Slayers. With BFS you'll usually go shallower spools for less start up effort, lighter line, and special bearings. We'll see how it all comes together in May hopefully.
