Default Old Hickory this Morning 6/5

Well boys when I walked out of the house yesterday morning and felt temps in the upper 50’s, I vowed to do whatever it took to clear my schedule for today and pull a “work from home” gig. On the water at 0430 this morning, headed straight to the grass areas I have recently done well with. Picked up 6 LM’s on buzzbait and hollow body frog, no takers on bladed jig or spinnerbaits. Just as the sun was up, while still behind some cloud cover, I headed to a long sand bar point and found the mother lode of schooling fish gorging on massive balls of shad. It was glass calm and for the shad it was a massacre. It was 2-3’ depth on top of the point and I’m sure you could have thrown anything but I grabbed a series 90 Whopper Plopper. Good Lord it was every cast for an hour and a half. I lost count at 30 and these fish were solid chunks however only a few would measure, stocky fat bellies with a height disadvantage. Well from there I ran down to Drake’s and hit some grass then back up to Bluegrass but in the end all my action was from pre-dawn to about 8:30.
I have been saying to myself the past few years I’ll never let another day I can’t get back get away from me. Well this was it. I can’t wait till I retire.
