If your going to turn them on when someone gets close then why ever turn them off in the first place? I can at least understand but not agree with it if the bugs are bad and someone is fishing in the back of the boat but the bugs were not an issue last night
If i was fishing the shoreline I left my lights off. I do not like bugs nor the light shining in my eyes if I turn to face it. 99% of the time i had a partner in the boat.
If I saw a boat approaching within a couple hundred yards I flashed them and if he was coming toward me I turned them on.
Anyone would have been a fool to get too close because i was usually not in an area that one should have been running with any speed.
