Since you have 8ft rods with assuming a good long handle be sure to use both hands / pivot point while casting. If not wear your arms out possibly tear something Merv. Check out some musky fishermen casting or ask mnfisher because they perfected the "easy on you" way to chuck heavy 3,4,5oz baits.

Throwing them while seated in a yak sucks. I fished the flash mob last time I was out and just got tired of throwing it after 20 cast or so.
