When I think of spinning tackle I think of small cranks, shakey heads, grubs, weightless flukes. Lighter more finesse fishing styles.

When I think of baitcasters I think more of power fishing like cranks, plastic worms (Carolina Rigs, or Texas Rigs) frogs, jigs, etc. Rods that I throw Frogs with are rated usually 1/2oz to 1.5oz and are in the 7'4-7' 11" range and are very lightweight for the size of rod that they are, and have a fast tip. Where most of my spinning rods have slow tips and not made for the pressures a frog rod are used for.

I have a few spinning rods that are rated for heavier baits, but would never think of throwing a frog with them due to the overall weight of the rod, they would just wear me out.

I'm buy no means saying what Mike is doing is wrong, and I know he knows how to use a baitcaster, so I'm in no way questioning his intelligence, or ability to use a particular piece of equipment. Just stating that it is very unorthodox, or maybe I need to get out with others because I usually fish alone.
