That video is about trout fishing. If you are trout fishing I would always use a fluro leader. As for how close to the bottom.....with trout it needs to be within a couple of inches of them. I watched them today and if you aren't close they won't come up far. Each year when I start my trout fishing it takes me a while to get it through my head to get it down to them. As Jeff Smith says "If you aren't catching trout you are not fishing deep enough or there are no trout there". I have found that to be true.
